About Erin

American soprano Erin O’Meally, a recent transplant from San Francisco, California, to Berlin, Germany, is praised for her "delightfully operatic lyric soprano” and her “lovely expressive face”, and for being “irresistibly charming” (The Independent) both nationally and internationally.

Ms. O’Meally rapidly established herself as a beloved and compelling performer while in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the 2019-2020 season, she was featured in West Edge Opera’s bold production of Threepenny Opera directed by Elkahnah Pulitzer. As Lucy Brown, the proud, jilted lover of Macheath, she “played a good comic foil,” and “gave an energetic, convincing, and satisfying performance.” (Opera Wire) Throughout the season, she held a soprano AGMA position with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. There, she performed under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas, including for a concert performance with Andrea Bocelli at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Ms. O’Meally “led the way” earlier in the year with her performance of Magda with Pocket Opera’s production of La Rondine, where “her clarion tone transmitted ardor and excitement.” (Opera Wire).

The 2017-2018 season included milestone performances that cemented Erin’s outstanding reputation. Her "stand-out" performance as headstrong Mabel with Lamplighters Music Theater in their powerful, feminist, 2018  production of The Pirates of Penzance earned her a nomination for “Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role in a Musical” with Theater Bay Area. That spring, Erin's riveting performance of Hélène in Pocket Opera's production of La Belle Hélène earned her widespread praise for her “sparkling voice” and for "[giving] her singing expressive and dynamic variety.” (San Francisco Classical Voice) Ms. O’Meally also debuted with Opera San Jose as Annina in their striking production of La Traviata, giving “authentic feeling,” and exhibiting a “poised, silvery soprano” that “was well-suited to Annina’s gentle phrases.” (Opera Today) In the fall of 2017, Ms. O’Meally deftly covered the role of Yvette in Puccini’s La Rondine. Earlier that year, she dazzled as Musetta in Pocket Opera’s production of La Bohème. That winter, she joined for the second time the prestigious Bracebridge Dinner performance series at the Majestic Hotel in Yosemite National Park.

Always seeking out new dramatic challenges, Ms. O’Meally is equally comfortable as a character actor and leading lady. Her particular talent for bringing to life Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire is evident in her extensive experience performing with Lamplighters Music Theatre. She has performed in The Mikado (Yum-Yum), Ruddigore (Rose Maybud), Yeomen of the Guard (Phoebe), and A Song To Sing, O! (featured soloist). Additionally, with San Francisco Opera’s Opera à La Carte school outreach program, Erin starred as Mabel in the touring production of The Pirates of Penzance. Combining her versatility with outreach, she also was featured in Opera Outings for the Il Cenacolo Italian Cultural Club (affiliates of the Merola and Adler Fellow Program at San Francisco Opera) from  2015-2019.

Erin is no stranger to new music or the concert stage. In 2019, she premiered the role of Queen Sarai in Culver Crest Productions’ Ammon and the King: Immigrant Speaks Truth to Power, performed in the heart of San Francisco’s famed Presidio. In 2018, she performed the Mozart Solemn Vespers with the Montclair Presbyterian Church as the soprano soloist.

As an award-winning soprano, Erin’s accolades include the First Prize in the Henry and Maria Holt Scholarship Competition in 2018, First Prize in the East Bay Opera League Competition in 2017, and Third Prize in the James Toland Tier II Vocal Competition earlier in 2017.

Masterclass experiences have figured significantly in Ms. O’Meally’s continued training. In 2016, in a Baroque masterclass with Dominique Labelle, she presented Barbara Strozzi’s Lagrime Mie, a piece she also performed during her 2016 graduate recital with theorbo and classical guitar. The previous year, she presented Guilietta’s aria Oh, Quante Volte for the celebrated soprano Deborah Voigt during a masterclass at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Erin earned her Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2016. While there, she performed the classic Baroque role of Drusilla in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea, the belty musical theater role of Lisa in A New Brain by William Finn, and gave a “show-stopping” interpretation of Purcell's Fairy Queen. During the summer of 2013, Erin attended the Advanced Artists Program at OperaWorks. That same year, she completed her undergraduate studies at The Boston Conservatory at the Berklee College of Music. Highlights of her time there include the crossover role of Anne Sexton or “#2” in Conrad Susa’s Transformations, and the sensual role of La Chatte in Ravel’s L'Enfant et les Sortilèges. While at the Boston Conservatory, she studied voice with Patty Thom.

Ms. O’Meally actively studies voice in Berlin, Germany, and regularly coaches virtually with international instructors.
